Giraffes - Mommy giraffes are pregnant for over a 1 year (400 days) before giving birth. They give birth to their young while standing up. Thus, look out below because baby giraffes enter the world with a six foot drop. Because of this long drop, more baby giraffes are injured or killed as are eaten by predators in their first weeks of life. Mother giraffes do not sit down or lay down to give birth because the drop out effect helps to burst the embroynic sac and they would be extremely vulnerable to predators as it takes time and a lot of energy to get back up. Great White Shark - The Great White will give birth to many offspring who must immediately swim away from its mother or be eaten by her as she will be very hungry at that point.
